It all started in the Champagne bar. How often does that happen? Yes, it may have been 4.30 in the morning but undeterred my members made haste towards those little silver stools located at the Champage bar in Edinburgh Airport. A few drinks later it was last call for the flight and a rather large gulp down.
Once on the flight I think we were all glad we had had some alcoholic refreshment as the plane was making an unholy noise that sounded like the roof was about to rip off. Nervous moments for everyone involved. A unscheduled pit stop at Manchester to fix the problem determined that it could not be fixed and we would have to change planes.
A few hours later we arrived in Malaga. Beautiful, sunny weather quickly made us forget the difficulties of travel. Luciano kindly picked us up and an hour later we arrived at Iridike, more than ready for lunch and to plunge into the pool. A few more beers lifted tired spirits.
Later in the day it was onto the ponies and playing chukkas, for one of our group, it was her first chukkas ever. Bravely she competed and was not to be put off by the speed. After chukkas, more beer to watch the Sun go down over the pitch and exchange polo stories with the neighbors swiftly followed by a delicious dinner.
The next day started off with breakfast at a leisurely 9.30am which suited everyone after the previous day. Onto the pitch at 11 for a lessons/stick and ball followed by lunch, pool, more chukkas and a fantastic Asado (Argentine bbq) to finish the day. I was delighted to be joined by an old friend and someone who started his Polo career off at Stewarton, Peter Donald Reid. Now a Patron who plays in Dubai and Sotogrande.
The next day was more of the same and then sadly Monday came and everyone went home. Meanwhile I nipped off to my apartment in Sotogrande for some r and r before Winter season starts. All in all a fantastic holiday. Argentina next in January. Watch this space for details.
