Winter Season

Those long, sunny days seem a long time ago as I sit in the office writing this with the wind blowing like crazy outside but just because the days are colder the action has not cooled down. After our end of season break we are back full throttle into Winter season.

This week we welcomed back all the university students from last year and met a whole lot of new university teams this year.

Many of our Summer members are continuing through the Winter as this really is the best time to improve your Polo and get it upgraded a level by the Summer. Year after year we see those who continued to play the arena season reaping the rewards when we hit the grass in April.

As always we continue to offer lessons for beginners through the Winter so if you are tempted to have a go,now really is the best time to start so you are up and runnig in time for Summer.

We have have full social calendar planned starting off with the change of season dinner and the fabulous new restaurant Scott’s which has opened in the marina in South Queensferry.

Come and join us for an action packed Winter.

Dodson & Horrell Polo Championships

We were blessed  by the weather doing the right thing at the right time with enough rain to soften the previously hard ground in the week before the tournament and dry weather on the weekend.

It was a fantastic weekend with  8 teams entering overall, 4 in each section.  Stewarton put out some of their inexperienced players for a first run out in the tournament and these players acquitted themselves very well.  Although the teams did not come home with any spoils, the upper sector team put on a strong performance to beat an experienced Errol side on Sunday

Burnfoot won the upper section ably captained by former high goal player, Alasdair Archibald playing alongside his young guns.  The lower section was won by a tried and tested Kinross side who benefitted from years experience playing together.

It was a fantastic weekend and one we are looking forward to repeating next year

Frostbite League

We have reached the half way point of the Frostbite League and seen some excellent matches.  Not Fast, Just Furious have really dominated the league so far with team captain Fabienne Renfrew proving very quick on the ball.  Ably back up by her teammates they have been the team to beat.

We look forward to rest of the games to see who comes out on top but at the moment Not Fast, Just Furious look difficult to beat.

Spring News

We are entering Spring although it doesn't feel like it yet with freezing temperatures and snow on the ground.  Despite the cold the club is very busy with lessons and lots of people coming out with temperatures.  Many honing their skills before the Frostbite League starts on February 18th.

We have five teams entered for the Frostbite League.  The teams are made up of one beginner, one novice and one more experienced player and will be the first opportunity for our beginners to experience match play.  Matches will take place on Sundays at 2pm.  Spectators are welcome.

Later on in Spring will be our Arena tournament on March 24th/25th where we look forward to welcoming teams from other clubs.  It is hoped we will have a novice section and a section for the more experienced players.  It will be a lovely way to see out the arena season before hitting the grass on April 1st.  Let's hope by then the weather is a lot warmer

Winter Season

The nights are drawing in and there is a distinct chill in the air which means a sad goodbye to Summer.  Thankfully, the Polo does not stop there.  We have a full Winter programme, not only with Polo but a few club nights out for good measure.

On Sundays we will be heading to the pub for a late lunch after chukkas.  Friends and family are welcome to join in.  The club has a break over Christmas and then in February the Frostbite League starts.

New players are welcome to join us and for those who have never tried Polo before we have lessons available too so why not kick out the Winter blues and join us?
